Where Science Meets Art
Phoenix, Arizona
Circa 1985, I was draped in the Color Me Beautiful system as a Winter by Nancy Hansen, my mom's friend. While studying mechanical engineering one of my professors explained that engineering is where science and art meet. This idea of combining science and art has since resonated with me. Following graduation I worked for several years at Motorola as an engineer.
After the birth of my 7th child, I discovered weaving. Weaving allows for much exploration in two of my favorite things, math and color. I opened Zatgebo Handwovens in 2013, primarily focusing on baby wraps, but also weaving scarves, shawls and blankets. One of my customers and now friend, Morgan Hinkle of White Owl Color Studios, introduced me to the True Colour International (TCI) Sci/Art 12-tone system. During my personal color analysis, Morgan draped me as a True Winter.
The desire to further incorporate the 12 tones into my weaving as well as believing that all would benefit from knowing their season inspired me to become a TCI analyst. I attended TCI training with Amelia Butler and was certified in December 2017.
Amelia was personally trained and mentored by Kathryn Kalisz, the founder of Sci/Art. Amelia creates the beautiful TCI palettes (fans) and posters that have become industry standard. Amelia was certified as a Sci/Art trainer by Kathryn Kalisz.
